“Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.”
John 3:17

Happy New Year!
I pray that your life, if it was taken out of its ordinary orbit and cycles for the holidays, has returned to a manageable state. On Sunday, Scott Shaw (our Associate Pastor of Worship Arts) encouraged us to consider the idea that we should be less interested in making resolutions for the year that serve our own purposes, and more interested in making choices for a lifetime that serve the Kingdom of God through our response to the love of Jesus Christ. In case you haven’t done so, I encourage you to set aside some time to pray and discern what that shift in perception might mean for your life.

We also discussed that being part of the body of Christ means recognizing that we need to be walking alongside all of God’s people. Christians should be prepared to acknowledge that there is a difference between a passive welcome to be beside a community and an active invitation to become part of that community. God’s people, saved by grace, are called to respond to that grace with action in this world -- action which requires each person to have an opportunity to use their specific gifts and talents.

Steve Nickell, our Chair of the Trustees, did not know what last Sunday’s message would be when he approached me that morning and said “everybody needs to know that -- whatever their skill level, or even if they don’t have one -- there’s a place for them to be serving on the work day.” Well, I try not to ignore it when God makes such obvious connections. So, let me share with you that on Saturday, January 20, opportunities will be available for everyone and anyone to help make Revolution an even more welcoming space for worship, for visitors, for Baby Grace, and for our new partner in ministry to the Westport area -- Street Medicine KC.

THIS Saturday, January 13, we will also be gathering together to offer service at Harvester’s Community Food Network -- working together in joy to support those in need throughout our community. There is more information about both of these opportunities in this newsletter; please contact the church office if you have questions.
May this new year be filled with the Holy Spirit, and may we be open to receiving it.

Peace,
Pastor Steve
