Our Vision
At Revolution, we envision a church without walls.
Revolution seeks to become a community of faith in action. In this pursuit, it is vital that we achieve the delicate balance between building a solid faith foundation through study, discipline, worship, and by motivating ourselves and others to change the world through service and missions.
The mission of Revolution is to create a Christlike culture in which ordinary people are empowered to do extraordinary things by rethinking societal norms, removing the dividing barriers, and reshaping the future of the world.
To create a Christlike culture
What does it mean to create a culture that mirrors the nature of Jesus Christ? In the Bible, Jesus is portrayed as a dynamic teacher, compassionate friend, a peacemaker, and a loving leader. At Revolution we strive to emulate these ideals with the culture we are creating. We want to teach and learn from one another, be loving and compassionate to all, and help lead the way toward God's kingdom of justice and redemption.
Ordinary people, Extraordinary things
In a sense, we're all very ordinary. Sure, we've all got our unique traits and qualities that set us apart from everyone. But we also share a lot in common with everyone else. Imperfection, for example, is one thing that connects every one of us. We all have our downfalls, our shortcomings, our weaknesses. So, in this sense, we're pretty ordinary.
But throughout the Bible, we find that God does some pretty extraordinary things with ordinary people like us, especially whenever we're willing to be a part of what God is doing. A stuttering murderer leads slaves to freedom (Exodus 3). A short teenage shepherd defeats the giant Goliath and becomes a king (1 Samuel 16). A young girl mothers the Son of God (Luke 1).
It's in our ordinariness that God's extraordinariness is made known. At Revolution, we believe that God empowers us every day to change the world in some way, as long as we're along for the ride. God can make an impact through us, no matter how ordinary we are.
To rethink the norms means to critically examine the ways in which our society places values on people, things, ideas, and lifestyles. Popular American culture places a high value on material wealth, the accumulation of "stuff," rabid consumerism, and a self-centered outlook on life. At Revolution we believe in a different set of norms. We believe that everyone, regardless of economic status or skin color or age, has been created equally by the same Creator and equally loved by the same unconditional love. We also place a high value on living a life of service and self-sacrifice --the only lifestyle that can lead us toward a sense of significance and purpose.
To remove the barriers is to break down the walls that separate us from our relationships with God and with one another. At Revolution we believe that we were created by a relational God to be relational people, therefore "self-sufficiency," which leads to a world of isolation from meaningful relationships, is a farce and should be avoided. Through Jesus Christ, God reveals to us a new way of living - the only way that brings real life and real joy. If your desire is to strive for a life of significance and not mere existence, we believe it is necessary to remove the barriers and live for God and others.
To reshape the future is to put revolutionary faith to work. It means moving out of a mentality of talking about what is right and good, and actually beginning to do what is right and good by relentlessly serving God and neighbor. At Revolution, one of our goals is to provide organized, effective opportunities for ordinary people to do extraordinary things in the world. We believe that, if we all set out hearts and minds intently on making a real difference in the world, the future will be reshaped for the better.
